What Is My Mission?

By the Rev. Dr. Darryll H. Young

My mission at Siloam is to help heal the hurts and heighten the hopes of this church and community through the love and power of God.

This Mission and purpose can be accomplished when we work together to help others be healthy spiritually, psychologically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically and financially.

I believe God has called me to Siloam Presbyterian Church because this congregation has a real team spirit for evangelism and social action.

I resonate with Dr. Martin Luther King's statement, "The church should be a headlight pointing the way for the world and not a tailgate merely reflecting the world."

I am committed to congregational-based ministry and I bring a concern for excellence in worship and preaching, a love of teaching, a concern for individuals, and an ability to articulate the importance of social witness and outreach to the community in which I work.

I am guided by the Word of God found in the Scriptures, and my preaching style would be considered Biblical. The church characteristics I cherish are commitments to the great commandment and the great com-mission which Jesus Christ gave us. We are called to obey the great commandment which is: "Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and your neighbors as yourselves." And we are also called to obey the great commission which is: "Go into the whole world and preach the gospel."
